Alvaro López Iñiguez

Alvaro López Iñiguez is a Mexican infectious disease specialist in care for people with HIV infection. He was born in Guadalajara Jalisco where he grew up and trained as an internist, later he studied at the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán in Mexico City where he studied infectious diseases, and did a fellowship in HIV specialized clinical care and a master's degree in research and it is where he currently works.

He has a passion about the study of infectious diseases and especially HIV infection. The clinical care of individuals with HIV is an opportunity to provide specialized medical care and also an opportunity to actively participate as an activist in search of equity, justice and against stigma.

The change in the paradigm (from treating opportunistic diseases to treating chronic diseases) in the clinical care of HIV infection is a great challenge that requires the participation of a multidisciplinary group and this allows me to learn from the rest of my teammates and do it in a way focused on individualized attention.
