Maura Dandri is full professor at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), where she leads the virtual hepatitis research group. She received her BS in Natural Science and PhD in Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Trieste, Italy; was Post-doctoral Fellow at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, and at Heinrich-Pette-Institute, Hamburg, Germany (EMBO Fellowship). The German Research Foundation awarded her with a Heisenberg Professorship in viral hepatitis.
Dr. Dandri is member of the executive board of the German Center for Infection Research and the ICE-HBV governing board. The overall aim of her research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms responsible for the persistence of human hepatitis viruses, in particular HBV and HDV, and on accelerating the development of therapeutic approaches aiming at curing chronic hepatitis B and D infections. These studies are mostly performed using humanized mice and through the analyses of human liver biopsy samples.
